About Us

Privacy Evolved is a boutique consulting firm founded by Manika Gupta. Our mission statement is to find creative solutions to enable data flow in your business, not to halt it through our compliance efforts. Our founder, Manika, has a decade of experience dedicated to data privacy compliance as a specialty and is regarded as one of the founders of compliance in this space. Recognized on the TEDX platforms and having worked for Google and Morgan Stanley, she has serviced a wide range of clients of all sizes from finance, fintech, technology and social media, retail, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, and data sellers. Manika founded Privacy Evolved to offer a unique consulting solution in the market. Compliance efforts, while important, often slow business. Manika’s goal with the firm is to continue doing what she did
since the birth of privacy regulation – to create the best solutions to allow data to continue flowing, while remaining well above the line of the law and conscious of the end users.

Unlike large consulting firms, Privacy Evolved is not a generalist firm recruiting recent graduates and staffing them to revolving projects, with often, irrelevant skill sets. Each of our consultants has over a decade of experience in business as program managers for compliance or as attorneys in privacy law working in historically highly regulated industries. Each engagement is led by Manika personally who holds each client project to the legal standard to which she was held accountable at Google and Morgan Stanley. The strategy and direction of each engagement is always developed by Manika herself. As a firm, we aim to offer flexible rates by cutting out the partner and generalist schema – we only bill you the people with the actual privacy expertise. We work in the capacity of staff augmentation, programmatic jumpstarts, to provide you advisory and guidance on retainer basis, or to offer you standard templates for flat fees.

Sample Client Cases

At the largest online search tool, our job was to understand new privacy laws and changes to incoming privacy laws, triage, and determine impact and whether we would build a program for compliance. Risk analysis involved weighing the cost of fines against company mission and ethics and against the cost of pulling our engine entirely out of problematic jurisdictions. We helped the client to draft letters to the Supreme Court and other regulatory bodies to opine on our plans for privacy compliance.

Social Media Tech

Working with a large data broker based in the US to ensure overall health of its privacy posture. Unique challenges we mitigate include tracking consent strings, updating of Privacy policies to incorporate more stringent and numerous regulation on this industry, reviewing memberships with NAI, IAB, and others, particularly after IAB fines applied by the European courts, updating of Cookie solutions and disclosures, and continuous review of data supplier and purchaser agreements.

Advertising Sales

Engaged by a mid-sized data aggregator and reseller for ad targeting, we helped to develop a first-time privacy program that had outgrown the abilities of the current staff engaged in different roles. As such, we did extensive data mapping and development of technical requirements to help the client marry privacy principles into their primary product, an Identity Graph, that was sold to mobile publishers for advertising.


Data distributor

A mid-sized fintech firm engaged us for building a first-time privacy program given that the client engages in the new space of blockchain and is recently established. Given the nature of the data, the relative freshness in the space, and the clear need to compete against larger firms of this nature, it was clear this client needed a world-class privacy program held to the degree of a Fortune 10 company. We helped to roll this program out from the ground up and provide competitive advantage on the basis of their privacy protection against their peers. 

Fin-Tech

Leading golf product and brother-company, clothing supplier engaged us for assistance with a multi-year engagement, primarily under CCPA, to build a program for their retail operations. This engagement was a comprehensive privacy delivery where we delivered all aspects of a privacy program over 2 years with continued retainer support for years following.

 

Retail

At a small-mid sized life sciences firm, Privacy Evolved was engaged on a part-time basis to assist with renewing privacy compliance efforts. We have provided customized jumpstart packs ranging from enterprise-wide training materials to policies and notices. On a retainer basis we have continued to provide customized guidance to new efforts to market in the EU, double v. single opt in requirements, marketing efforts in APAC, and helping the client to become audit ready.
